hey just thought id make it a new subject from the cheap insurance topic!! thought it could help a few people.

Right just been on the spanish consulate website that rob put up on cheep insurance topic. MY understanding is that you can apply for your nie number here but there is a few catches. 1st of you've got 2 go to the consulate in person because they need to see you sign the papers infront of them. 2nd you  need to have accomodation sorted b4 u you because they forward your nie on2 your spanish residence, if you know sum1 out ther id chance putting there address on there because i cant see the police or authorities following up all the nie's but thats me. 3rd it costs 22 squid.

Consulates are based in London (obvisouly), manchester and edinburgh.

So if your a manc got accomodation sorted and 22 quid in your back pocket go for it!!!

Thanks for taking the time to report that back to us phillis, that's really helpful.

I hoped that is the way it would work, that's good news that they are doing that now. Also thanks for pointing out the additional locations in Manchester and Edinburgh.

Just be careful with the accommodation thing, don't just put any address down as I would imagine that is where they would send your NIE documents too once they have been processed which I think takes 2 to 4 weeks. Remember that your NIE number is effectively part of your idenfiication in Spain and you should treat the documents with the same sort of privacy as your bank details.

yeah thats probably true so scrap the fake address thing. but if you've got accomodation sorted i think this is the way forward. Mite cost a few extra quid but its better than waiting a month for appointment for your nie in ibiza. Rob did you get that nie form?? any use

Yep but you can work in that time, no problem (again my understanding) as you have already applied, also somebody told me on here that they give you proof of that application to give to your employer.

ive been told that u do get a copy of ur aplication signed, so u can work whilst waitin for the proper one. also some employers wont mind u giving their address for the nie to be sent to, obviously thats only if ur gonna be workin for them!
